History of the King's Scout Award

In 1909, King Edward VII approved Robert Baden-Powell's request that boys who passed special tests for efficiency be ranked as "King's Scouts". A badge with a crown signified the award as a "King's Scout". After the establishment of the Senior Scout section in 1946, only Senior Scouts (or Boy Scouts over 15) could become King's Scouts. After the succession of Queen Elizabeth II in 1952, the award was renamed "Queen's Scout" in 1953.

A King's Scout certificate, with the Royal Crest at the top, signed by King George (V or VI). The wording reads: As a King's Scout you have prepared yourself for service to God and your fellow-men, and have shown yourself a worthy member of the great SCOUT BROTHERHOOD. The King's Scout Certificate issued by PPM HQ is conferred by the state Sultan or Governor in the name of HM the Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia, the Royal Patron of the Scouts Association of Malaysia. This certificate is unique because it has 10 signatures, preceded by incumbent HM the Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia and the 9 Sultans of the royal states.
